Traps and baiting for feral pigs in the Cassowary Coast

Feral pigs frequently visit Far North Queensland banana farms because they provide a reliable food source and mud wallows.  When soil and mud sticks to their feet and fur, the potential to spread Panama TR4 becomes real.

With Panama TR4 being detected on five properties in the Cassowary Coast, the Cassowary Coast Regional Council (CCRC) has services available to assist landowners manage feral pigs on their properties:

·        Loaning of feral pig traps

·        Pre-feed bananas

·        1080 baits (requirements must be met)

These services not only aim to reduce feral pig numbers in the region but also limit the potential for Panama TR4 to be spread by this means. For more information call CCRC on 1300 763 903, email shared.feralpigs@ccrc.qld.gov.au or head to the landholders brochure Feral pigs, baiting and landholder information.
